I was intrigued by an article in the copy of Baskerville you sent with the emTeX disks. The article, by Angus Duggan, described a method of graphics inclusion in TeX documents by converting portable bitmaps into PK files using a program called PBMtoPK. The article stated that the sources were in the directory [tex-archive.fonts.halftone.duggan] I looked there but could not find them, in fact I could not find the files anywhere in the archive. Are they still available and if so at which site? many thanks, Jerry Hagon Dept. of Physics Newcastle Univ. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Mar 91 15:14:46 From: "C.Martin" Subject: lcircle* fonts in LJ_? The batch file to insert lcircle* fonts into the LJ_? files is not needed. All that is required is to put the lines lcircle10 circle10 lcirclew10 circlew1 in the psfonts.map file! Can you tell me how many 3.5 disks you require (whether 720KB or 1.44MB) and what payment, if any. Could you also let me know what would be required should I need prof. Beebe's device driver kit in order that I could write my own driver if DVIDOT will not suffice. Yours faithfully, Anne E Wiles ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Mar 91 15:24:26 +0000 From: D.LOVE@UK.AC.DARESBURY Subject: `blank space sign' in Courier For TeX use, the PostScript Courier font has a fairly important character missing: the `blank space sign' (\char32) which indicates spaces in the LaTeX \verb* command, for instance. Here is a way to hack it into the virtual font `pcrr' as used with Rokicki's current dvips. It's mocked up by setting rules on three sides of a rectangle corresponding to the shape of the symbol in cmtt10. The lack of round corners is no problem at 300 dpi with reasonable magnifications. Doing it properly with specials to get rounded line mitres and caps is more awkward since you have to find out the dimension of the font first. The following makefile lines do the job if you have patch: rpcrr.tfm pcrr_raw.vpl: afm2tfm $(AFMDIR)/Courier -v pcrr_raw rpcrr pcrr.vpl: pcrr_raw.vpl pcrr.patch rm -f pcrr.vpl patch > A user needs to use twocolumn output in article style, but needs the > title and abstract full width, above the start of the two column section. > This is (by observation) the normal layout foir academic articles, but > LL seems to have designed it out of LaTeX for some reason. Is there some > simple fix to make it work? thats exactly what \twocolumn[text] on p. 162 is all about, isnt it? alternatively, use Mittelbach's multicol style sebastian ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Mar 91 17:21:03 +0000 From: TEX@UK.AC.CRANFIELD.RMCS Subject: RE: single-col abstract and title in latex twocol style In a message (306) to UKTeX of Wed, 20 Mar 91 15:37 GMT, Peter Flynn UCC , wrote: > A user needs to use twocolumn output in article style, but needs the > title and abstract full width, above the start of the two column section. > This is (by observation) the normal layout foir academic articles, but > LL seems to have designed it out of LaTeX for some reason.
