Collis Subject: PostScript libraries? We use psfig to include EPS into LaTeX and want to make available a library for users. LaTeX appears to pick-up EPS files from TEXINPUTS, but unfortunately this is not true for dvips! Is there a way to make a library available without instructing users to take copies or linking the required files? Does it not just pass the file name through to DVIPS (complete with directory name or whatever you put in front of it), not even caring whether such a file exists, let alone what directory it is in. I dont know what version of DVIPS you are using, nor on what OS, but mine on MS-DOS can be configured to look for PS files in a directory of your choice (or, indeed, collection thereof). I hope this helps: if not, please supply more details. chris ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 91 08:57:28 +0000 From: Subject: TeX for PC with source code Dear Sir I am trying to develop a Tamil (an Indo-SriLankan language) version of TeX/LaTeX for PC's. Are there any TeX versions for PC's in the Public Domain which are supplied with the source code(preferably in C)? Is emTeX supplied with with the source code? What are the system requirements to run emTeX? You might also like to discuss TamilTeX with Dominik Wujastyk of the Wellcome Institute, who is deeply involved in such things. Now, with the advance of the dark ages, there are other people in the firm who generate `quality' output, and they would like access to my logo from Ventura or WordImperfect (oops!). Both these things can import either PostScript or CGM (binary encoding) files. Does anyone have the wherewithal to generate EPSF or CGM of a single character, or can they suggest how I might do it with the tools at my disposal? (Note that I do my TeX work on a VAX/VMS system.) (NB, I could probably swing a beer or two on expenses at a UKTUG meeting for someone who can help...) (Note > that I do my TeX work on a VAX/VMS system.) You could use Angus Duggan's excellent PKtoPBM (described in the first issue of Baskerville) to generate a PBM file; then use PGMtoPS to convert that to EPSF. The main PBMPLUS utilities all work on VMS (I can send you a copy -- it's an 18-part VMS_SHARE kit), but I'm not sure how easily PKtoPBM will port from Unix. Or if you can get the PK file to me unscathed, I should be able to do the converstion here. > (NB, I could probably swing a beer or two on expenses at a UKTUG meeting > for someone who can help...) At the moment, I have a 16pp contribution from Sebastian Rahtz, unfortunately not in machine-readable form, a 3pp article from Jonathan Fine, and a promise of perhaps three more contributions. I would therefore welcome any further contributions from members of UK-TuG, or indeed from any readers of UK-TeX. Please let me know by electronic mail if you would be interested in contributin g an article (or even a `letter to the editor'), in return for which I will give you suggestions for mark-up and a promise of eternal fame. PBMplus is included as a contributed part of Release 4 of the MIT X11 window system. It has been developed for Unix systems, but a VMS version is also known to exist. - --dave David Osborne (pp Aston TeX Archive group) ------------------------------ UK TeX ARCHIVE at ASTON UNIVERSITY *** JANET Interactive and NIFTP access *** Host: uk.ac.tex (JANET DTE 000020120091) Username: public Password: public *** FILES OF INTEREST *** [tex-archive]00readme.txt [tex-archive]00directory.list [tex-archive]00directory.size [tex-archive]00directory_dates.list [tex-archive]00last30days.files This year's UKTeX back issues are stored in the archive in directory [tex-archive.digests.uktex.91] This year's TeXhax back issues are stored in the archive in directory [tex-archive.digests.texhax.91] Latest TeXhax: #22 TeXMaG back issues are stored in the archive in directory [tex-archive.digests.tex-mag] Latest TeXMaG: V5 N2 *** MEDIA DISTRIBUTIONS *** Washington Unix tape (28 March 1990) TeX 2.993(==3.0), LaTeX 2.09, Metafont 1.9 (2.0) Unix 4.2/4.3BSD & System V. tar 1600bpi, blockfactor 20, 1 file.
