o How to build pdftex from sources 
    - for versions older than 10 Sept 2000:
        - download tetex-supp.tgz from
          ftp://ftp.cstug.cz/pub/tex/local/cstug/thanh/pdftex/
          and unpack it somewhere, let's say to /tmp

        - download the latest pdftexsrc-<date>.tgz (avaiable from the same
          location) and unpack it to /tmp/src/texk/web2c. After unpacking
          you should have pdftex source files located in directories
          /tmp/src/texk/web2c/pdftexdir and /tmp/src/texk/web2c/pdftexdir

    - version 10 Sept 2000 and newer have all files needed to compile
      pdftex in one .tgz file pdftex-<date>.tgz. Unpack this file to /tmp

    - cd to /tmp/src/ and run
        configure
        cd texk/web2c
        make pdftexbin

    - the binaries and pool files after building will be located in
      the directory /tmp/src/texk/web2c
