This should be sufficient to get TeX and MetaFont up and running quickly.
The binaries are installed in /usr/local/bin

and the {tex,mf} directories are installed in /usr/local/lib.

NOTES

tex, latex, slitex are hard links to virtex
mf is a hard link to virmf
plain.{fmt,base} are hard links to tex.fmt and mf.base
