# xindy/README 15 May 98 -*- Indented-Text -*- #---------------------------------------------------------------------- In this tree you'll find xindy, the fleXible INDexing sYstem. You're still using MakeIndex? Go with the future and switch now! Check out http://www.iti.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/xindy for more information. By now, we have the following available: The basic binary packages for the following platforms: xindy-2.0: MS-DOS/Windows(NT) i386 and others OS/2 i386 dto. Linux ELF i386 dto. AIX-3.2 rs6000 HP-UX 10 HP9000 Solaris 2.4,2.5,2.6 sun4m/sun4u SunOS 4.1.1 (maybe 4.1.3) sun4c You need at least one of them to run xindy. Always pick up the most recent version. The binary versions for different platforms may have different version numbers. The OS/2 version is available in ZIP-format in file `xdyos220.zip'. The MS-DOS and Windows version `xdydos20.zip' is considered to be in an alpha stage and according to Joerg Diederich runs under the following platforms: - OS/2 (native mode) - MSDOS 6.2 - Windows 3.11 - Windows NT 4.0 - Windows 95 (not tested!!!) - DOS box of OS/2 - DOS box of WinOS2 under OS/2 Further information can be found in the file README.win Please inform us about your experiences with these versions. The platform-independent parts of the system can be found in the archive xindy-VERSION.tar.gz Note: The OS/2 archive is a complete archive.
