PSI RAS participation in EmNet project
EmNet program is aimed to create All-European information enviroment for activities of mathematicians-explorers, based on modern computer network means of telecooperation and perspective telecommunicatory technologies.
In 1993 EmNet/fSU/phase - I project was supported by European Commission by means of INTAS association. The project proposes foundation of 8 regional centres of EmNet network on the territories of Russia, Ukraine and Georgia. Total volume of financing the project by EC - 240.000 ECU. The project will last for 15 months.

Phase I results
To enhance the computing and networking environment at the fSU partners, thereby enabling the creation of end-user oriented services, and enabling the integration of fSU into EmNet (Euromath Network and services), To establish services especially tailored to the needs of the fSU mathematical community, e.g. regarding language, documentation and available resources; of particular interest is the creation of an information system, and a base for electronic publishing, To provide the researchers at the fSU-partner institutions with a platform facilitating document preparation and exchange and access to external services such as databases, information systems and computer algebra systems (the key element is installations of the Euromath System), To establish centres as part of EmNet, To prepare for the expansion in phase 2 of the project to 70-120 research institutions.

(Pereslavl-Zalessky, June, 7-8, 1996)
It was agreed to arrange three workshops now (other may be decided later). The agreed workshops are following:
WS on information system The exact content is to be decided by those in charge of the relevant task groups. It is foreseen that the subjects will include the information system MATEMATIKA, the EMIR system and input re caching and other technologies where UKC (W2) has extensive experience. The WS should be held as soon as possible. The 2nd part of October this year in Moscow is planned at present. IPS (1.1) will be main responsible for the organization of this WS.
WS on electronic publishing The exact content is to be decided by those in charge of the relevant task groups. Many NIS partners have extensive activity in this area: it is also planned to discuss in detail the Euromath System. The time may be in March-April 1997 in Novosibirsk. To be confirmed. Novosibirsk (5.1) will be main responsible for the organization of this WS.
WS on LINUX Here the plans are quite precise based on a suggestion by UH. Mika Seppala (W3), previously communicated to the partners. Mika Seppala's suggestions were approved with the addition that Linux experts should also take part in the WS. It is suggested that 10 experts and 15 beginners should attend, if possible. Time will be May 1997. Details to be fixed in collaboration with Mika Seppala. The WS on Linux can not happen earlier as next summer. The partners accepted the offer of Mika Seppala to hold this in Helsinki.
